The Citizens’ Academy is a nine week program that takes you inside the El Monte Police Department for a closer look at police operations and programs designed to serve and protect the community.
The Academy is open to all qualified applicants who live, work or go to school in El Monte. Past participants have included elected officials, business leaders, community activists, judges, lawyers, homemakers, teachers, high school students and those interested in law enforcement. Ages have ranged from 16 to 85 and all are welcome.
Superb presentations are given by the men and women of the El Monte Police Department. Interesting lectures are supplemented by hands-on demonstrations and exciting interactive scenarios.
The Academy covers the following:
- Air Support, Child Abuse, Community Relations
- Criminal Law, CSI Lab, Detective Bureau, Dispatch
- Domestic Violence, DUI, Explorer Program, Gangs, Police K-9’s, Mounted Unit, and Volunteer Program
- Narcotics, School Programs, Patrol, Public Oriented Policing, Selection and Training of Personnel, SERT Team
- Shooting Range and Simulator, SIT Team, Stress Factors, Traffic Unit, Transients and Homeless, and Use of Force
And Much, Much More!
Citizens’ Academy classes are begun every March and September and are held on Monday and Wednesday evenings from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
Most classes are held at the El Monte Police Department. There is no cost and dinner is provided.
