The Cadet Program was established in 1970. This program offers young adults the opportunity to enhance their communication skills as well expose them to a variety of avenues related to police work. Cadets are given the opportunity to work in our jail facility, our dispatch center, the front desk, code enforcement, administrative offices and records bureau.
Cadets are also allowed to ride with patrol officers. Cadets learn to write police reports and use the department's 911 emergency telecommunications system. This includes the use of patrol car radios where radio codes are learned and used on a daily basis.
The cadets’ work schedules revolve around their high school or college schedules, therefore allowing the cadets the opportunity to continue and further their education.
Since the inception of the program, more than 75 cadets have gone on to become police officers with our agency.
